Preheat oven to 375
- 4 medium apples (granny smith for a crunchy apple crisp or mccintosh for a softer one)
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- (optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 8 tbsp butter or margarine at room temp
- Peel, core and thinly slice the apples and put in a bowl.
- Add the next 4 ingredients in order and toss together.
- Empty the apples into a 8 inch baking dish or in individual portions.
- Prepare the topping in another bowl. Mix all the other ingredients besides for the butter.
- Cut the butter in small pieces, add to the mixing bowl and rub in the butter with your fingers to make big crumbs of topping.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples and spread evenly.
- Place in the oven and bake uncovered for 45 minutes. The top will be brown and the apples soft.
