Sushi
- Bamboo
rolling mat
- Sushi
paper
- Sushi
rice
- Rice
vinegar
- Vegetable
filling of your choice
- Soy
sauce (optional)
1. Precook rice. When
cool add a bit of the vinegar to it, mix well.
2. Place 1 sheet of
sushi paper shiny side down on the mat. Wet your hands and spread some rice on
the lower third of the paper. Press it down gently. The rice should be about ¼
of an inch in height.
3. Make a slight dent
horizontally along the middle of the rice. Add your filling in the center and
gently press down. Always put the biggest filling first, smaller things on top.
Don’t pile the fillings too high or it will be hard to roll.
4. Now you can begin
rolling! Lift the end of the mat that is closest to you and fold it over the
ingredients. Be sure to pull the end of the mat out in front of you so that it
doesn’t roll up in the roll.
5. Dip your fingers in
some water and lightly moisten the top end of the sushi paper. With a gentle
rolling motion, fold the roll onto the end of the sushi paper and seal the
roll. Roll it back and forth between the bamboo mat to ensure the roll has
sealed and to help shape it.
6. Congratulations! You
have made a sushi roll!!!
7. Ask an adult to help
with the last step. Take the sushi roll and slice it into 8 even slices with a
sharp knife.
Serve with soy sauce
and enjoy!!!!!
