Kids Cook - Recipe of the Day

MELT IN YOUR MOUTH Meringues

Preheat oven to 225

• 4 large egg whites
• 1 teaspoon corn starch
• 2.5 cups confectioner's sugar
• food coloring (optional)

1. Place the egg whites and corn starch in a bowl and beat at medium high speed for 5 minutes.
2. With the machine running, add the sugar a little at a time as you beat for 10-12 minutes. It should form stiff peaks and be very shiny.
3. (Optional: You can add your choice of color here.)
4. Drop teaspoons full on parchment paper an inch apart form each other. (They can also be squeezed through piping bags to make fancy shapes.)
5. Place into oven and bake for 2 hours.
6. When cookies are done, lift them off the parchment paper. If they stick at all, return them to the oven for another 30 minutes to finish drying out.

Makes about 36 meringues

What A TRIP - FIRE STATION!!!

We would like to thank Capitaine DesJardins, Fire Fighters Martin & Ben and the rest of his team of great firefighters at Caserne 61 for a great tour and our awesome trip to the fire station!!

And don't forget, unlike at the fire station, make sure the bateries of your home smoke detectors ARE working!

Weekly Newsletter

The first week at Camp Mazal started off with a bang just like the bowling balls made when they hit those pins. We had lots of fun bowling on our first day. Our first Arts&Crafts of the summer was our Camp Mazal visors. On Tuesday we made yummy chocolate muffins covered in sprinkles and we learnt how to play soccer in the park. Tuesday was also our first day of swimming lessons at the Civic Center and we did love it. The third day at Camp Mazal was trip day and, boy, did we have fun leaning about and playing with water. We walked on water and learned all about the natural disasters that are coming about because of global warming. Thursday was public worker day. We learned all about firemen and fire safety to prepare us for our trip to the firehouse on Monday. We also had a bean hunt and a wheelbarrow race. Friday came and no one could believe that the first week at Camp Mazal had flown by so fast. We made challah and learned all about this week's parsha which was Chukas-Balak. And, in middle of all that raining we managed to have water fun and everyone came in their funny hats. It was an amazing week at Camp Mazal.
